Clonazepam as other benzodiazepine drugs acts by enhancing the actions of gamma amino butyric acid. The gamma amino butyric acid or GABA is an inhibitory neurotransmitter in the brain. Thus by enhancing the actions of GABA, Clonazepam acts as an anxiolytic, muscle relaxant and anticonvulsant.

Clonazepam is available in the tablet forms with the dosage of 0.25 mg, 0.5 mg, 1.0 mg and 2.0 mg. It is also as dispersible tablets with a dosage of 0.125 mg, 0.25 mg, 0.50 mg, 1.0 mg and 2.0 mg and in the injectable form of dosage 0.5 mg or 1.0 mg per ml.

The adverse reactions of Clonazepam include drowsiness, decreased cognitive and motor performance, irritability, loss of libido, impaired coordination, impaired balance, hallucination, anterograde amnesia, depression, hang over like symptoms, seizures which may be increased in frequency, liver damage, incontinence, disinhibition and sexual dysfunction.
